A Day In The Life Of A Retailer

A Day In The Life Of A Retailer

It's 9am. Jane comes into the store, makes herself a cup of tea and checks that everything in the store is aesthetically appealing before switching on her LOIS till point. She logs onto the till by swiping her LOIS employee card and selects the music she wants to play through the LOIS till-point.

Jane notices that several new internet orders have been placed since she shut shop yesterday. She whizzes around the shop and picks and packs the orders ready to be dispatched.

Soon after, the courier drops off a small delivery of jeans and collects the internet orders. She quickly prints off some labels, sticks them on the jeans and delivers them into stock. The jeans have been selling like hot-cakes. Jane pops open a Sales Detail Report to find that they have sold 21 pairs in her store alone in the last week.

Jane serves customers through the morning, chatting away as she pops sale after sale through the tils . As one satisfied customer is leaving a message from another store location prints itself:

Jeans

From: Sarah
At: The Shop in Winchester

Hey Jane! I see you've just got a delivery of those new Hudson jeans.
We are out of size 28” and need one for a customer.
Please could you transfer a pair to us?
Sarah.

Jane goes and gets the size 28” jeans and takes them over to the till. She easily transfers them to the Winchester store on her LOIS till before sending them a quick message:

From: Jane
At: The Shop in Chelsea

Hi Sarah!
All done and dusted, I have transferred the jeans and they will be sent when the courier pops in later today. Oh, and congratulations on last weeks record sales!

Jane notices that the printer has printed some internet orders. The Hudson jeans have already sold 2 pairs on the store Website. She locates the jeans and takes them off the shelf. She packs them and changes the status of the web order to 'Awaiting Despatch'. Jane knows that the customer will automatically be informed of the status of the order via e-mail.

At 11.15 Clare arrives. Jane prints off a detailed sales report and sends Clare off to replenish stock on the shop floor.

After the store is fully restocked, the next courier comes and collects the internet orders and drops off a large delivery of new season stock. Clare sets the internet orders to 'Dispatched' as Jane checks the new stock. Jane loads all the new styles of stock onto the till, creates labels and sticks them on the stock.

The shop is getting busy so Jane makes sure that Clare is looking after the customers and putting sales through the till while Jane uses the HHT (Hand Held Terminal) to scan and deliver-in the large delivery. The wireless device makes large deliveries like these easy, the till area is kept free of piles of clothes and transactions can still take place.

Clare handles the shop floor while Jane prints off a top sales report for footwear. She needs to order more shoes and wants to know which have been selling will and in what sizes. After looking at the report she is able to call and order more stock, selecting more quantities of popular sizes.

Beaded Shoes

Jane notices one footwear brand has not been selling too well and decides to do a 30% off promotion. This way she will be able to sell them quickly and invest the money in new lines. She selects the item on the till and sets the new sale price which automatically updates the price along all stores and on the internet.

Jane also decides to create a sign in the window to advertise the promotion. She creates this, then drops it in the shops shared folder before messaging the stores to let them know of the change and getting them to print of the sign.

Jane asks Clare to create and send a newsletter about the discount to all her customers on the customer database. This is done and completed within a matter of minutes.

It's the end of a busy and productive day. Cashing up is quick and simple. After giving the shop a quick tidy Jane is ready to set the alarm and go home.

After getting home, Jane knows it's going to be a busy day tomorrow and decides to create some orders from her home computer which is linked directly to all the stores tills.
After finishing the orders Jane can relax knowing all the labels will have been printed for the new batch of stock which will be arriving the next day.
